Do you enjoy spaghetti, but prefer to eat it with your hands while dipping it in tomato sauce? You're going to love the pasta chips!
Pasta chips are all around Tiktok right now, crispy, crunchy, and absolutely dippable. It's basically al dente pasta that's been mixed in oil, cheese, and seasoning before being crisped in the air fryer. Give them a try if you want crunchy snacks with a touch of chew in the middle.
So, what exactly are pasta chips?
Spaghetti chips are golden brown "chips" made from deep-fried pasta. They can be made in the air fryer, making them a great quick snack when you want something warm and crunchy. Any sort of spaghetti will do, but larger shapes that can be picked up and dipped work best.
Despite the fact that pasta chips are currently popular, they are a well-established snack. Crispy crunchy spaghetti chips have been making the rounds on the internet since at least 2013. I remember seeing them on this crazy fantastic food/fashion blog, and after reading that piece, I was dying to eat crispy penne.
What does it taste like to eat pasta chips?
Pasta chips are going to be your jam if you like the crunchy edges of lasagna. They're crunchy and crisp in the middle, with a smidgeon of noodle chew. They have a similar flavour to the crunchy edges of lasagna or the small macaroni bits that stick up in baked mac & cheese. I'm a huge fan of lasagna edges, so these chips are right up my alley.
Ingredients
- Pasta
Any type of pasta will do, but larger pasta that you can grab and hold like a chip with some surface area for dipping is best.
- Oil
A neutral oil works best here; don't use your extra virgin olive oil because it's too pricey. Grapeseed oil was used.
- Parmesan cheese
Parmesan cheese provides a lot of umami and cheesiness to a dish, and it also turns incredibly crispy and crunchy.
- Seasonings
Use your imagination and season to your heart's content. With parmesan and garlic, I kept it simple. I've included some additional seasoning suggestions below.
The best way to make pasta chips

4-Prepare a few dips. You may prepare your own dips or reheat up some bottled tomato sauce to use as a dipping sauce.
5-Enjoy. Remove the pasta chips from the basket and let aside to cool briefly, allowing them to crisp up even more. Repeat the process of dipping, eating, and repeating the process of dipping, eating, and repeating

With pasta chips, what sort of dip should I serve?
Ricotta whipped - I adore whipped ricotta. SO fluffy, SO creamy, and THE BEST dip, especially when paired with crunchies. To make it, in a food processor, blend 3/4 cup whole milk ricotta until smooth and creamy. Drizzle with extra virgin olive oil and season with salt and pepper. It's much better with some roasted tomatoes on top.
Tomato sauce — I have a great pizza-style tomato sauce recipe here that would be great for dipping. You may simply heat up some of your favourite canned sauce.
Pesto - Pesto and crispy pasta chips go together like a dream.
